My Apple TV is becoming unresponsive or very slow

Apple TV is an under TV box for accessing and streaming content.

The Apple TV can sometimes appear to be unresponsive or slow. Symptoms can include buffering when attempting to stream content from a Mac on your network, delays when using AirPlay from an iPad or iPhone. Another symptom can include delays when using the menus on the Apple TV.

Sleeping and waking the Apple TV appears to have no effect.

The problem appears to be leaving the Apple TV "on" for a long time.

The solution is to physically unplug the Apple TV from the power, count to ten, and then plug it back in again.

The solution is to physically unplug the Apple TV from the power, count to ten, and then plug it back in again.

This will reboot the device and on most occassions will cure the problem.

If this does not resolve the problem then the next course of action is to restore the Apple TV to factory condition. You do this in the settings menu.

This guide applies to the second and third generation Apple TVs.
