Rogal Dorn Battle Tank at Warhammer World

Named in honour of the legendary Primarch of the Imperial Fists, the Rogal Dorn Battle Tank is a ponderous, heavily armoured behemoth designed to anchor the Astra Militarum’s armoured spearheads.

Larger and far more heavily protected than the ubiquitous Leman Russ, yet more nimble than a massive Baneblade, the Rogal Dorn bridges the gap as a dedicated heavy combat vehicle capable of taking immense punishment while shattering enemy fortifications. Its cavernous hull bristles with an imposing array of weaponry: the main turret can be fitted with either a devastating twin battle cannon or a high-caliber Oppressor cannon paired with a co-axial autocannon, while hull-mounted weapons, ranging from heavy meltas and castigator gattling cannons to pintle heavy stubbers—allow it to sweep away infantry and heavy armour alike.

Engineered with thick, reinforced plating and an imposing profile, the Rogal Dorn stands as an unyielding fortress on tracks, embodying the uncompromising resilience of its namesake across the war-torn battlefields of the 41st Millennium.

Bridging the gap between the ubiquitous Leman Russ and the gargantuan Baneblade, the Rogal Dorn Battle Tank is a ponderous, heavily armoured line-breaker engineered for the Astra Militarum’s most brutal grinding engagements. Named after the steadfast Primarch of the VII Legion, this heavy combat vehicle combines thick, damage-absorbent plating with immense, flexible firepower.

Its imposing main turret can mount a crushing twin battle cannon or an armour-shredding Oppressor cannon with a co-axial autocannon, while secondary mountings allow for an overwhelming barrage of castigator gatling cannons, heavy meltas, and sponson-mounted heavy bolters. Mobile enough to keep pace with armoured spearheads yet durable enough to act as a rolling fortress, the Rogal Dorn brings the uncompromising resilience and devastating artillery of its namesake directly to the front line.

Carnosaur

I have always liked the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur model for the  Seraphone army for Age of Sigmar. I thought it had potential for a mount for either my Feral Ork army, or for my Old World Orcs and Goblins force. Another idea was for a mount for my Warhammer 40k Tallarn forces.

With the recent new release of Eldar Exodites (for Kill Team) it also got me thinking it could be ideal for an Exodite force as well. Unfortunately I missed out on the pre-order for the Kill Team Eldar Exodites as they appeared to sell out within five minutes everywhere. However my understanding is that the Eldar Exodite models will be available separately  at a future date. They appear to be very popular, so maybe we might see more Eldar Exodite models in the future.

The list price of the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur model is £58, so I did consider that this was a little on the high side for a conversion. However as one of the releases of Hachett’s part works, you could get the two sprues of the model across two weeks for £9.99 per issue.

What I did check out though was that you can get away with buying only one spruce, the one with issue #20. That sprue allows you to build the Carnosaur model.

The second sprue provides the parts for the different riders and the parts needed for the Troglodon version of the kit. So, I picked up two issues of #20 as I only wanted the Carnosaur model.

Space Marine Bikers

Operating as the hard-hitting vanguard of the Adeptus Astartes, Space Marine Biker squads and Primaris Outriders combine the genetic fury of a transhuman warrior with the unstoppable momentum of a heavy armored steed. Mounted upon rugged, twin-bolter-equipped combat bikes, these shock troops excel at rapid reconnaissance, flanking maneuvers, and lightning-fast spearhead assaults.

The bikes themselves are heavily armored, all-terrain behemoths powered by roaring multi-fuel engines, engineered to smash through enemy lines and withstand grueling battlefield conditions. Driven by seasoned battle-brothers who interface directly with their mounts via their power armor’s black carapace, a bike squadron can cross treacherous terrain at incredible speeds before unleashing a devastating point-blank volley of bolter fire and charging into close quarters with chainswords raised. Whether operating as the wide-ranging scouts of the White Scars or the disciplined flank-guards of the Ultramarines, Space Marine bikers ensure that a Chapter can project its overwhelming force exactly where the enemy least expects it.

Imperial Guard Basilisk

The Basilisk is the standard self-propelled artillery piece of the Astra Militarum in the 41st Millennium.

Imperial Guard Basilisk

It is the most common artillery piece used by the Imperial armed forces across the galaxy.

The Basilisk is produced in vast numbers on all of the known Forge Worlds in the Imperium, and almost every Astra Militarum regiment maintains several in their arsenal.

Tallarn Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle

Games Workshop have just released the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle (for pre-order).

The Astra Militarum Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle serves as a vital asset for commanders needing to rapidly deploy infantry across hazardous warzones. Engineered for speed and efficiency, this rugged transport ferries squads to the front lines with a degree of protection that outclasses standard unarmored options. Its design prioritizes tactical flexibility, featuring an open-topped configuration that allows embarked Guardsmen to unleash a hail of las-fire while still protected by the vehicle’s sturdy hull, ensuring they arrive at the objective ready to fight rather than pinned down by suppressive fire.

This armoured half-track for the Imperial Guard has echoes of the World War Two M3 had track.

I do like the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle I am thinking about getting one to create a Long Range Desert Group inspired raiding force for my Tallarn forces.

The Long Range Desert Group (or LRDG) was a reconnaissance and raiding unit of the British Army during the Second World War.

One inspiration for me as to be the Matchbox kit of the Long Range Desert Group released back in 1976 which included a Chevrolet 30cwt patrol truck and a Willys Jeep, both stripped down and heavily modified for desert warfare.

When the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle was originally announced as a pre-order I wrote about this.

I am not sure how easy it will be to strip down the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle, but in order to give it that Long Range Desert Group look I will be adding stowage, extra fuel cans, canvas sand mats, sand channels, and other equipment. The actual Chevrolet 30cwt patrol trucks of the LRDG often had their doors, windscreens and roofs removed. I will have to see how the model is constructed before deciding how to strip it down.

Now the model is available to pre-order the Warhammer site has pictures of the sprues.

It is clear to me from the sprues that it should be possible to strip down the model to make it look more like something inspired by the Long Range Desert Group.

Hippogriff AFV

This weekend the Hippogriff AFV will be available to pre-order this weekend.

Keep up with the fastest vehicles and lay down powerful cover fire with the Hippogriff Armoured Fighting Vehicle. The Hippogriff brings raw agility, while carrying your choice of a vigilator cannon, chiron gatling cannon, melta cannon, or heavy lascannon.

When this was announced back in March I mentioned how it reminded me of Owen Rees’ Imperial Guard – The 374th Tahnelian Airborne Chimera APC conversions., Owen had made some wheeled armoured cars using the Chimera APC as a base for the conversion.

I do like the Hippogriff AFV and along with the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle I am thinking about getting them to create a Long Range Desert Group inspired raiding force for my Tallarn forces.

Ferry your troops to the front in the relative safety of the Astra Militarum’s newest people-mover – the Centaur Rapid Strike Vehicle. This speedy, economical vehicle can carry plenty of Guardsmen and has ample open roof space from which to shoot.

I much prefer this model over the Taurox which was originally released back in 2014, really didn’t like it.

It’s a submarine

Over on the Warhammer Community site there was a nice news item about a new diorama at Warhammer World, ‘The Battle for Grendel’s Lock’, an Armageddon themed display.

I’ll cut to the chase, yes there’s an Ork submarine model in the display.

I’ve always liked the idea of an Ork submarine, but have never got round to building one.

More on how the display came together.

Back in 2008 Games Workshop did publish a data sheet for an Ork Submersible (submarine) for Apocalypse. A few years later in 2011, Games Workshop Bristol built a submarine using parts from the Ork Stompa and the Bastion which looked very effective.

Over the last few years it has felt that Games Workshop moved away from scratch built models or conversions, sticking to the actual kits they sold. You did see the occasional foray into conversions in some of the displays at Warhammer World, but most of the time the painted models you saw on the website and in White Dwarf were essentially the same models you could buy from warhammer.com or your local shop. This submarine makes a nice change from the usual models, and there have been other conversions and scratch builds in recent issues of White Dwarf too.

Has it inspired me to think about scratch building my own submarine, yes it has.

Ork Battlewagon

A Battlewagon is a catch-all term used for any type of Ork assault tank and heavy armoured troop transport. The term Battlewagon seems to refer overall to a category of large Ork armoured vehicles. A Battlewagon can be wheeled, tracked or a combination of the two and is used in many battlefield roles. It always carries a large complement of weapons.

Sometimes these armaments are just Big Shootas, while on other vehicles they are large Killkannons. Battlewagons possess thick armour plating, multiple turrets and death rollers or rams. They also carry mobs of Ork Boyz, either internally or clinging onto its many handholds.

Legio Custodes Orion Assault Dropship

Created as a dedicated assault dropship for the Legio Custodes, the Orion can carry a full task force of the Emperor’s Talons into combat.

Protected by frontal armour superior to that of the Legiones Astartes Thunderhawk Gunship, its Arachnus heavy blaze cannon and Lastrum bolt cannon can swiftly clear a landing zone of hostile infantry and armour with brutal efficiency, allowing the units within to deploy before it soars back into the sky to unleash death upon any foe who dares approach.
